Blue Jays’ George Springer returns to lineup as DH in Opener against Red Sox

George Springer is the designated hitter and will lead the Toronto Blue Jays when they start their three-game series in Boston on Tuesday.

August is just the fifth start for Springer, who has battled elbow and knee injuries. He pinch hit in Sunday’s game against the Yankees.

The 32-year-old outfielder is an impact hitter for the Jays when healthy, batting .269/.345/.479 in 94 games with 18 home runs.

On defense, Jackie Bradley Jr. will start at center field, his first game in Boston since being released by the Red Sox on August 4.
