Blue Jays 1B coach Bujinsky leaves team after daughter’s death
The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Sunday that their first baseball coach, Mark Budzinski, will leave the team after his eldest daughter, Julia, has died.
“Buzinsky has been part of the Blue Jays family for the past four seasons. This catastrophic loss is felt by our entire organization and we mourn with Bad and his family,” said the Blue Jays GM. Ross Atkins said in a statement. “I have known Bad for over 25 years and have always admired his commitment as father and husband first. He is loved and respected throughout our clubhouse and we Occupies a special place in my heart. “
The Blue Jays organization added: “Our thoughts and prayers are currently with Mark and Monica, and their children Josh and Lily.”
Budzinski was sent off three times in the second game of the doubleheader with the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. The Blue Jays said in a statement that he was “handling a personal matter” and was replaced by bullpen catcher Luis Hartad.
The Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo also temporarily left the match and replaced bench coach John Schneider, but returned to Doug Out.
Budzinski joined the Blue Jays in 2018 after working for the Cleveland organization.
