Viola Davis Gets One Step Closer To EGOT With Grammy Nominations (Exclusive)

To Mona Khalife, ETOnline.com.

Viola Davis is very likely to be the next EGOT recipient. ET’s Will Murhugi spoke with Davis at the 13th Annual Governors Awards at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, California over the weekend to discuss what it means to achieve Grammy nominations and EGOT status.

“It felt pretty good,” the “Woman King” actress said about her Grammy nomination for her self-narrated audiobook. Find Me: A Memoir

Davis has already won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for “Fences,” an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for “How to Get Away With Murder,” and two Tony Awards for “King Hedley II.” Her Broadway production of “Fences” made her Grammy Award the only thing standing between her and her coveted title.

“That’s a surreal title. I thought about it. And I thought to myself, ‘Once I’ve achieved that, I might take you out to dinner.'”

“And you know, I don’t celebrate my victories,” she added.

Davis was less concerned with celebrating his own victory, but he did everything in his power to celebrate the victory of fellow Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award winner Michael J. Fox at Saturday’s gala.

“I remember, it was ‘Family Ties,'” Davis said of the first time he saw Fox on screen. “Yes. He was the one — he humanized some kind of conservative tight guy and then made ‘Back to the Future.’ elevated to another level of heroism. ”

Davis will next take on the role of head gamemaker Volumnia Gaul in the Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. About what she could tease about the movie, Davis simply said, “It’s coming.”

“I can’t tell you anything, absolutely nothing,” she continued. “But wait until you see it. It’s coming.”
