The 3rd Annual Mr. Mike’s Fundraising Barbecue for YWCA Prince Albert doubled the total raised last year when the event was held on Monday, July 18th.

Ultimately, the fundraiser barbecue raised $3,000, double the $1,500 raised in 2021.

On Friday, August 5th, after all counts and calculations were completed, Mr. MIKES presented YWCA Prince Albert with a check for $3,000.

This is the third version of the fundraiser and we are expanding it every year.

YWCA Prince Albert Fund Development and Volunteer Coordinator David Hambleton said: “Mr. Mikes’ commitment to trying to increase the total each year so far has been amazing. They are challenging themselves to raise more money for charity.”

Hambleton said the barbecue ran for the same length as in previous years, but doubled the total amount raised. He said it was a sign of growing community awareness.

Mr. MIKES staff and his YWCA staff served classic Mike burgers and sodas to a steady queue of people.

GetintheLoop and Beach Radio also drew participants, and the Prince Albert Fire Department stopped by for a snack in their fire truck.

“A lot is being done to make it a true community event, not just a fundraising barbecue,” Hambleton said.

According to the YWCA announcement, they calculated that nearly 500 burgers had been purchased.

“We served about 125 burgers in an hour, which is a lot more than last year,” says Hambleton.

He credits awareness with more and more people sharing details about the event.

Hambleton said, “I personally put up posters around and emailed various community organizations, city services and the city of Prince Albert to make sure the word got out and asked people to share the information. I know that,” he said.

“When people heard about it, they not only showed up, they shared the information because there were also a lot of people who showed up from different businesses and they were bringing back a lot of burgers all over the office.”

Hambleton thanked Mikes for his continued support of the organization.

“Mr. Mikes says he loves working with the YWCA to support all of the different community services they provide to those in need in their communities,” said Hambleton.

“We are really looking forward to doing it again next year. We hope the weather will continue to be great and we hope to see another great turnout.”
