HAMILTON — Matt Siltz will be Hamilton’s starting quarterback when the Tiger-Cats host the Toronto Argonauts on Friday night.
Silz replaced incumbent Dane Evans (shoulder), who was in Hamilton’s practice on Wednesday.
Evans has started in seven of Hamilton’s eight games this season, completing 188 of 279 passes (67.4%) for 2,229 yards with 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Evans also rushed for 115 yards (4.3 yards average) on 27 carries.
Evans had 303 yards on 29-of-43 passes in touchdowns and interceptions during Hamilton’s 34-20 road loss against Toronto last weekend.
Silz has intercepted for 125 yards on 16 of 24 passes (66.7%) this season and rushed for 110 yards (5 yards average) and a touchdown on 22 passes.
It will be technically his second start at Hamilton for Silz, who took the opening snaps of the club’s 17-12 loss to BC Lions on July 21.
Silz started three games for the Montreal Alouettes last season, going 2-1.
These days, Hamilton rotates Evans and Shilts in the game.
Silz signed Hamilton as a free agent this offseason after four seasons in Montreal.
Hamilton receiver Bralon Addison revealed on social media Wednesday that he tore his Achilles tendon in last week’s game and will need season-ending knee surgery.
And former Tykat Brandon Banks will return to Toronto’s starting line-up on Friday night.
Banks was Eric Rodgers’ backup last week, but will replace him on Friday night after Rodgers was placed on the six-game injured list with an unspecified illness.
