Arrozarena 6 RBIs, Rays defeat Blue Jays, tie for AL WC lead

st. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Landia Rozarena hits his 20th home run Friday night in Tampa Bay as his Rays beat Toronto 10-6, giving the Blue Jays his wild card in the AL. Finished at the top of the standings.

The win clinched a season series and tiebreak for the Rays, who have won 10 of 17 games against the Blue Jays.

Arrozarena’s three-run homer gave Tampa Bay a 6–4 lead in the fifth inning. He hit a two-out, two-run single in the eighth off Imi Garcia (4-5).

Javi Guerra (1-0) won in relief.

Beau Bichet and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit singles with 5 RBI for 4 runs off Jeffrey Springs that put the Blue Jays ahead 4-3.

After Arrozarena put Tampa Bay ahead, Toronto tied at 6 in the sixth on George Springer’s sacrifice fly.

Springs struck out six in five innings, giving up four runs and six hits.

Toronto starter Mitch White pitched four innings, giving up three runs and five hits.

Miles Mastrobuoni, who made his major league debut as a defensive substitute in Tampa Bay on Thursday night, had his first hit in the fifth inning.

Blue Jays: OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr., who has been sidelined for two weeks with a strained left hamstring, returned to running on Friday and could be back in action next week. INF Santiago Espinal (left oblique) will miss at least 10 more days.

Rays: INF Yandi Diaz will miss four straight games with a sore left shoulder. . . LHP Ryan Yarbrough (right diagonal strain) has been placed on the 15-day injured list. …RHP Calvin Faucher was recalled from Durham to his fifth Triple-A of the season.


RHP Alec Manoa (14-7, 2.40) will take on RHP Drew Rasmussen (10-6, 2.92) on Saturday night for the Blue Jays. Executed with his eight starts ahead of him.
