The Black Academy celebrates the best black Canadian talent.
On Friday, the organization announced that André de Grasse, Kayla Gray and Fabian Cora will be honored at the inaugural celebration of the Legacy Awards.

Co-founders Shamiye Anderson and Stephen James, along with Insight Productions and CBC, shared the news with Randall Adjay, Fefe Dobson, Melanie Fiona, Shantel May and Alicia Mighty scheduled to perform at the gala. We also announced something.
De Grasse, Canada’s most decorated male Olympian with six medals in the sprint event, will be named Athlete of the Year.
TSN sportscaster Gray receives the Jamil French Award in recognition of his status as one of Canada’s rising stars.
Actress, director and producer Coras will receive the Visionnaire Award for her tireless efforts to elevate and showcase black Canadian storytellers.
“André, Kayla and Fabienne are leaders in their respective fields and our community,” said Stephane James, co-founder of Black Academy. “My brother and I are thrilled that the Legacy Awards will recognize their incredible achievements, dedication to their work and passion for their community. All black talent in one room. Sunday night is going to be dope.”

Gene and media personalities Alisa Cox, Brandon Goness, Kathleen Newman-Breman, Amanda Paris and Odario Williams.
The Legacy Awards air September 25th on CBC.
