Pelosi’s Husband’s Attack: Suspect Indicted on Federal Charges – Nationwide
A man already in custody in last month’s attack on the husband of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was indicted by a federal grand jury on Wednesday on charges of assault and attempted kidnapping.
The charges against David DePape stemming from the October 28 Pelosis San Francisco home break-in are the same as, but supersedes, previous federal complaints filed on October 31.
When officers responded to Paul Pelosi’s 911 call, they found Paul Pelosi and DePappe fighting over the hammer, according to the page six indictment. He replied, “Um, no,” before lashing out at Paul Pelosi.

The exchange lasted about 15 seconds, with Pelosi and DePappe lying on the floor, with blood spurting around Paul Pelosi’s head, the indictment said.
DePappe, 42, of the San Francisco suburb of Richmond, was arrested inside the Pelosi mansion. When Paul Pelosi called his 911, he told police officers that a man he had never seen was sleeping when he entered the bedroom looking for Nancy Pelosi.
Officers later discovered that the glass door to the back porch was broken. They recovered a roll of tape, a white rope, a second hammer, rubber and cloth gloves, and zip ties.

DePape’s public defender, Adam Lipson, did not immediately respond to phone calls and email messages. He filed a plea of not guilty last week against related state charges brought against his DePape, a militant activist drawn to conspiracy theories. A San Francisco judge ordered Depapu to be held without bail on charges of attempted murder, robbery and elder abuse, and he was also placed on federal hold in the case.
He has been charged with federal charges including assaulting a close relative of a U.S. public official with intent to retaliate against a public official for performing public duties. The second charge alleges that he attempted to kidnap a senior U.S. official in the performance of his official duties.
The first charge carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison, and the second carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
