Alejandro Pozuero leaves Toronto FC for Inter Miami CF

Toronto — Spanish playmaker Alejandro Pozuero leaves Toronto FC for Inter Miami CF.

Sources who were granted anonymity because the deal had not been announced confirmed that a 30-year-old Spanish playmaker was working.

Pozuero, who won the MLS MVP honor in 2020, will lose his contract with Toronto this summer.

According to figures released by the MLS Players Association in April, this year’s US $ 4.69 million is the fourth highest paid player in MLS.

There is speculation that Pozuero’s departure opens the place for Toronto’s designated players, and another European import may be on the way. Sources say Toronto receives assets, but players do not.

TFC is waiting for the MLS secondary transfer window to open on Thursday to deploy Italians Lorenzo Incine and Domenico Criscito.

The other two DPs in Toronto are Mexican defenders Carlos Salcedo and Insigne. Salsed is on the sidelines due to recent family problems.

Toronto acquired Pozuero as a designated player from KRC Genk in Belgium in March 2019. In four seasons of TFC, he is competing in the league with 26 goals and 31 assists. And at best, he was a straw that stirs Toronto drinks and had a great vision in the field.

Pozuero won the MLS MVP honor in 2020, scoring 9 goals and 10 assists in 23 games. This set Toronto’s second-best overall record in the league during the season when the pandemic was shortened.

He was named MLS Best XI for the second consecutive year in 2020, leading MLS with a chance (70) and a winning goal (5). Pozuero was the only Toronto player to start every match of the season and was ranked 9th in the league in terms of the number of minutes played.

Pozuero led Toronto FC to the second best overall record in the league, finishing second at the Eastern Conference after the Philadelphia Union.
