Windsor Essex public schools to remain open on Monday despite CUPE strike

The Greater Essex County District School Board said all schools, classes and student transportation will continue to function despite possible strikes by education workers on Monday.
The Union of Civil Servants of Canada (CUPE) officially announced on Wednesday that contract negotiations with provincial governments had broken down again, resulting in the union notifying them of a possible statewide strike on November 21.

CUPE represents an estimated 55,000 educators in Ontario.
This Friday is Professional Development Day for the Windsor Essex Area Public School Board and there will be no classes.
However, GECDSB has advised parents that schools will be open and buses will be running on Mondays.
GECDSB also did not close schools when CUPE members went on strike on November 4th.

Among GECDSB personnel, CUPE represents custodians, maintenance staff, couriers, media service staff, clerks, secretaries, and information technology technicians.
The CUPE members of the separate schools in the area under the Windsor Essex Catholic District Board of Education belong to a separate bargaining unit and include early childhood educators, teaching assistants, child workers, youth workers and other professionals. is included.
WECDSB closed schools during CUPE’s November 4 strike.
As of Wednesday afternoon, WECDSB has yet to issue an official statement on a possible November 21st strike.
