Agent: Zudenochara is waiting to determine the future of the NHL until September
According to agent Matt Keeter, defense Zdeno Chara is not yet ready to decide on his future and will wait until September.
Chara will be an unlimited free agent on July 13th after reuniting with the New York Islanders on a one-year contract for the 24th season at the NHL last September.
The 45-year-old character is the oldest player in the league, scoring 2 goals and 12 assists in 72 games.
“He spends the summer with his family, assessing where he is physically and where his family is, and will make a decision in September,” Keeter told The Boston Globe. “I’m not in a hurry.”
Chara was drafted by the Islanders in 1996 to 56th overall in the third round, spending the first four seasons of the league at the club. He was traded to Senator Ottawa in June 2001 with a second-place pick from Bill McCart and Alexei Yashin’s draft (Jason Spezza). Chara signed as a free agent with the Boston Bruins in July 2006 and was captain during his 14-season tenure at the club. He signed a one-year contract with Washington Capitals in December 2020 and returned to the Islands last season.
From Slovakia, Trenčín played the most 1,680 games ever played by the NHL defense, scoring 680 points (209 goals and 471 assists) and a 2,085 penalty in his career.
He won the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defense in 2009 and won the Stanley Cup in 2011.
