Dove Cameron thanks queer community for accepting her: ‘Be yourself more than ever’

Dove Cameron is open to all support! The 26-year-old won Best New Artist at the American Music Awards on Sunday night and how much she’s been loved by fans around the world. I can’t believe it.
“The number one statement we keep making is if someone told me how this was going to go at the top of the year, I’d be like, ‘Shut up.’ That’s how time works.” There is none. There’s no way you can leap that fast. It feels like this amazing whirlwind of good luck,” she tells her Denny Directo on ET.
When it comes to the support she’s received, Cameron says she should thank the LGBTQ+ community.
“Like the queer community that has embraced me wholeheartedly, I feel like I have to thank them,” she added. “I mean everyone who has really stuck with me.”
The “Boyfriend” singer admits she’s made a very “dramatic transition” from Disney to today.
Cameron says it’s important to celebrate every exciting moment, and the best thing to do is to know that time is not on your side.
“I think the way to calm your nerves is to know how short everything is,” she says. “I can only live for a certain amount of time. AMAs are huge and amazing. These moments, you will think about them forever. Also, life is so fast, you have to enjoy it.”
And as for her new single, “Bad Idea,” Cameron, who wore Marc Jacobs for the night, is celebrating by keeping the song’s inspiration close to her heart.
“I can’t say anything,” she told ET. “But I think everyone was in a situation where they were getting texts from their ex-girlfriends, and he was like, ‘I miss you so much,’ and it’s still the same for me. And you’re like, “No, I’ve grown out of this.” Yeah you’re like I did the job and healed. But then there are little voices like, “Is this the best bad idea I can come up with?” you know what i mean? favorite? yes honey. Honey, we’ve all been there a few times.
The 2022 American Music Awards will air live on ABC on Sunday, November 20th at 8pm ET/PT.
