White tackles issues pending across multiple government departments
Prime Minister David Eby has created a new role within his personal office dedicated to advancing the interests of indigenous peoples.
Coast Salish Attorney Doug White will serve as Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Indigenous Reconciliation. His role is to help quickly resolve issues that are lingering across multiple government departments, he said on Tuesday (29 November) at his 2022 First Meeting in Vancouver. Spoken at Nations Leaders’ Gathering.
Eby said one of the main challenges he saw in making a difference in Indigenous communities while working in government was that many state ministries and federal jobs often involved issues. This means that changes that the community desperately needs will be significantly delayed.
“Doug helps identify them and navigate them through the system,” says Eby.
White is an attorney and Chair of the BC First Nations Judicial Council. He is also Director of the Nanaimo Port Authority and former Mayor and Trustee of the Sneamux First Nation.
He and Eby worked hand in hand to create BC’s First Nations judicial strategy.
