Abbotsford’s Loud Noise Source Mystery – At Least For Now
The source of the loud noise that shook homes in Abbotsford on Wednesday (23 November) has yet to be determined.
Dozens of posts filled the community’s Facebook page, with residents across the city saying they heard and felt the boom around 12:30 p.m.
“Heard from McMillan by the barn. My dog jumped off the sidewalk,” one post said.
“At Mill Lake when it happened. Everyone walking around me jumped,” said another.
“There must have been something important that made it feel so far away,” said another.
Sgt. Abbotsford Police Department (APD) spokesman Paul Walker said the APD was aware of reports of the loud noise but did not know what caused it and had never been alerted by other agencies. said.
A 2016 Abbotsford News article following a similar incident indicated that its source was Whatcom County police who were disposing of expired explosives.
In 2012, a similar blast reported at Abbotsford was traced to the U.S. Air Force, which was experimenting with some type of explosive.
Abbotsford News reached out to Bellingham Police Department by email on Thursday (November 24) to see if the mystery could be solved, but has yet to hear back. Since it’s Thanksgiving in the United States, the response may not be immediate.
