The ABBA-themed musical at the Chilliwack Cultural Center will be “the party of the show,” the production director said.

From Chilliwack-based theater company Secondary Characters Mamma Mia! August 11-21

“It’s so much fun. It’s all high energy, all the bright colors and flashy lights. It’s so festive, it’s the perfect show to get you out of Covid when you’ve all been going through a really tough few years.” You come and the whole show feels like a party.”

The show has actually been going on for over two and a half years. Initially, auditions were held for him in January 2020. Everything was postponed many times when Covid hit.

The cast changed slightly as some actors moved out, but the final cast was announced in January of this year. There is a “Carpool Crew”.

The actors are “very excited” to take the stage again in this production, Manshaw said.

“We’ve been waiting for this for two years.”

The story was written by British playwright Katherine Johnson 20 years ago, decades after Swedish pop supergroup ABBA went out of business. It was a big hit on Broadway, and a movie starring Meryl Streep was released in 2008.

Mamma Mia! A romantic comedy set in the late 1990s. It tells the story of a bride-to-be, Sophie, her mother, Donna, and her close friends and family.

The musical is chock-full of ABBA’s greatest hits. Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!; super trooper; i have a dream; gold gold gold; When Lay All Your Love On MeAll songs will be performed by a live orchestra.

These and other songs tell the hilarious story of Sophie’s search for her biological father on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, Sophie’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings her three men involved in her mother’s past to the island she last visited twenty years ago. I’ll bring you back

The production will be performed at the Chilliwack Cultural Center’s Rotary Hall Studio Theater.

Manshaw admits it’s a big show in a small space. The original plan was to have a larger, more elaborate set, but scaled it back.

“This is a very dance-heavy show, so for ABBA, we have to play big dance numbers. We had to downsize the set because the dances take up so much space,” Munshaw said. says.

The dance numbers are huge…and comical.

“There’s a lot of comedy in the dance because our choreographer Anne Matterson choreographed it with a lot of humor, which you don’t see very often in musicals.”

The show was chosen by artistic director Sherry Wodick, and she was told to audition as well. She plays Donna, Sophie’s mother.

“She’s the perfect Donna. To be Donna, you need freedom of mind and love to dance.”

Wojcik is a dancer and choreographer.

“When you see her dancing on stage, you can tell how much fun she’s having.”
