Holiday events are in full swing this month, with annual favorites returning and several new shows bringing Christmas cheer to all ages.

The Barn Playhouse presents the comedy Nuts and Crackers, featuring works by ETA Hoffmann and Pyotr Tchaikovsky, written, designed and directed by Artistic Director Vicky Dyke. The play is set in the 1940s. The last remaining New Jersey theater owner bets everything on the new Russian ballet The Nutcracker. With his 20 minutes running time and no dancers in sight, a troupe of comedians step in to try and save the theater.

“We look forward to seeing our viewers laugh and have fun as they see the results of all the care, time and effort that went into making this show. I’m looking forward to seeing it,” Dyck said.

Nuts and Crackers will be held December 1-4 and 8-11 at The Barn Playhouse. Tickets are $30 for the show, $64 for dinner and show, and are available at 306-653-5191, barnplayhouse.com.

The Dancing Sky Theater presents Prairie Punt Jack and the End of the World. With music, puppetry, and audience participation, this story is set in a small town in Saskatchewan where Jack and the townspeople must fight off his Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to save their home.

“I want[the audience]to laugh, cheer and sing along. I’m so excited to be back because it doesn’t feel like Christmas without a punt,” said director Angus Ferguson. rice field.

Synonymous with the holiday season thanks to their 1981 Christmas album, Boney M., featuring original singer Liz Mitchell, continues to captivate audiences around the world.

“Boney M. has been everywhere with Christmas for over 40 years, and three generations of people of all types want to sing, dance and celebrate in a band,” said TCU Place Director of Events and Community Engagement. Kirby Wirchenko said.

Bonnie M. will perform at TCU Place on December 10th at 7:30pm and December 11th at 2pm.

Handel’s Messiah and Song Messiah

The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra revives the long-running holiday tradition of Handel’s Messiah with concerts and choirs. The program features guest conductor Cosette Justo Valdes, singers Mackenzie Wariner, Oli Gusell, Spencer McKnight, Brenden Friesen and his SSO chorus.

“What I love about Messiah, musically, is that there is something for everyone…As a singer, I can add my own embellishment to this beautiful musical painting created by Handel. I can,” said Wariner, who sang with SSO for the first time.

“Co-singing isn’t always something you can do. I think it’s really important to make music regardless of your ability or training. It’s good for your soul,” said returning soloist McKnight. Told.

To mark the 50th anniversary of their powerful performance, the Saskatoon Fireside Singers present their annual holiday concert, Christmas Memories. His 100+ voices in four choirs sing traditional and contemporary seasonal favorites, accompanied by a full orchestra and guest artists Thomas Yu and Kerry Duwors.

“The program offers an eclectic mix of repertoire, including beautiful vocal solos, stunning instrumental solos and ensembles, and dynamic choreography. You’ll delight in the heartfelt, powerful signature chorus sound that has drawn sold-out crowds,” said pianist Bonnie Nicholson.

Fireside Singers will perform at TCU Place on December 19th and 20th at 7:30pm. The concert will also be available on concertstream.tv from December 22nd to he January 6th.

A family holiday tradition since 1999, BHP Enchanted Forest is brought to you by the Saskatoon Zoo Foundation and the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation. This year’s new display is “I’ll be home for Christmas.”

“Over the last few years, zoos have provided a safe place for people to gather, so we hope this will be the year people come home for Christmas to gather with their loved ones, and the new display reflects that wish. We are doing it,” said Dawn Woronuk, CEO of the Saskatoon Zoo Foundation.

BHP Enchanted Forest runs nightly from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm through January 8 at Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park. Children 5 and under are free. $30 advance car passes are available at Shoppers Drug Marts and Co-op stores. Information can be found at: enchanted-forest.org.
