BC STORM: The first storm of the season hits the Fraser Valley hard.

Chilliwack and Fraser Valley came out of the first big snowstorm of the season on Wednesday morning.

But the eastern Fraser Valley isn’t over yet.

Commuters reported road conditions on the highway and main road were mostly clear by sunrise on Wednesday (30 November), but were erratic in some snowy areas, with intermittent conditions. It is slippery on the side roads.

Chilliwack School District 33 schools are closed.

“The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. Due to extremely icy road conditions, the school will be closed today, Wednesday, November 30, 2022, for students and staff, according to a severe weather announcement from the Chilliwack School District. “All rentals, community schools and daycares are also closed.”

We predicted the distance from Chilliwack to Hope would be 20-25 centimeters. This seems to be accurately observed in some areas, and many people are waking up to a snow-covered world.

Chilliwack’s total overnight snowfall was 13.2 centimeters as of Wednesday morning, according to Roger Punnett, a Chilliwack stormwatcher for the Canadian Environment Agency.

Accidents have been reported on social media, and at least one vehicle MVI on Wednesday morning was due to a vehicle smashing into a utility pole.

“Snowfall will continue to make driving difficult,” according to Environment Canada’s November 30 weather alert.

Coming from a strong low pressure system on Vancouver Island, it will continue to snow.

In the central and eastern Fraser Valley, the snow will stop near noon or early afternoon.

“An additional 5 cm of snow cover is expected for Chilliwack. For Hope, it will drop up to 10 cm before easing this afternoon.

“Adjust your driving to changing road conditions. Rapid snow build-up can make travel difficult. Heavy snow can reduce visibility quickly.”
