On Tuesday afternoon (November 22), an 18-year-old man died after being stabbed in the parking lot of Newton’s Tamanawyth Secondary School.
The Surrey RCMP said it responded to reports of a stabbing outside the school at 12:08 p.m.
Police say they have arrested a suspect who was “transferred to the Surrey RCMP cell.”
In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Tamanawys Secondary School principal Ian McGennis said the stabbing victim “was not a member of our school community.”
McGennis added that the school was “placed on hold and safe, which includes everyone staying inside the school as the exterior doors are protected.”
Meanwhile, at 3:55 p.m. on Tuesday, a tweet sent by someone claiming to be a Tamanawys student read, “A attacker was stabbed to death outside my school today. Our class was locked, and the RCMP was tense inside and outside the building, although the condition is unknown.”
Counseling will be available to students at the school.
