16-year-old dies in clashes in northeast Calgary – Calgary

A 16-year-old was killed in a car crash in northeast Calgary Saturday morning.

Police said the clash occurred near 15 NE Street and 128 Avenue around 7 a.m. on August 27.

At the time of the collision, there were two people in the car, a 14-year-old driver and a 16-year-old passenger. Police said the driver made a sharp left turn on a gravel road, lost control of the car, spun off the road and landed on the right side, police said.

Officials said speed is believed to be a factor.

The passenger was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but died shortly afterward, police said. The driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and was later released.

Officers said the driver was arrested on an unpaid warrant and was in custody as of Saturday afternoon.
